AUSTRALIA INDEX                                                Nov 27/05- July 22/06

The day had finally arrived to head South for the cyclone season.

NOVEMBER 27, 2005

After our 6 day passage, we have regretfully left the Pacific in our wake. It has been a very memorable cruising season giving us much insight into the topography and cultures that have enriched our lives significantly.

We made landfall in Coff's Harbour, then sailed down the coast to Sydney where we spent Christmas and New Year's Eve with Chris. From Sydney we ventured back up the coast to Manly (Brisbane) and spent time with the Folks. When the cyclone season was behind us we set sail for the 2500 mile trip to Darwin where we joined the Darwin to Kupang (Indonesia) Rally that left for Timor on July 22, 2006.

Sailing up the East Coast of Australia proved to be challenging and uncomfortable with strong winds against current, steep square waves with large swells. Generally the anchorages didn't often much protection and many areas were too shallow for our deep draft. However it was an interesting journey and we made many new friends along the way.
