Most yachts cruising the South Pacific spend a
cyclone season in New Zealand. We made landfall at Opua in the Bay
of Islands where the cruising area is gorgeous, very reminisce of
the Gulf Islands of B.C. After exploring the area, we sailed down
the coast, up the river and made Whangarei our home for almost 6
months. We left the boat at the secure marina there and explored New
Zealand by land, first the North Island, and then the South.
