BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS, CARIBBEAN
THE BVI's has a tiny population of about 190,000 spread among 15 inhabited mountainous islands. With a total of more than 60 volcanic islands, the uninhabited ones provide hundreds of secret bays and hidden coves. Although a territory of Britain, the BVIs are largely automomous. Sailing between the islands takes as little as half an hour and rarely more than 2 to 3 hours with predictable winds and calm seas.

The chain of islands is populated by The Arawaks, who emigrated from South America over 1,000 years ago, the Caribs, Africans and Europeans. Each community has different cultures that contribute to the heritage of the islands -- steel pan, calypso fungi, reggae and gospel.  Local artists and artisans display their work in rattan, terracotta and wicker. We enjoyed foods such as conch, West Indian roti, Johnny cakes, exotic rum drinks, and many specialties influenced from European, African and Indian cuisine.
