PETER ISLAND, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS, CARIBBEAN |
|
Although Peter Island is privately owned and
boasts numerous exclusive resorts, there are some good anchorages, given the
right conditions. The island is an undiscovered gem with its uncrowded pristine
beaches. |

White Bay
April 18, 2011
After scoping out the anchorage at Norman Island
and finding it much too crowded to anchor, we headed to Peter Island.
We found an unexpectedly quiet secluded anchorage
on Peter Island.

|
Although
the beach was part of an exclusive resort, there was no one on the beach so we
commandeered a table and chairs under a shady palapa. |
|
Gord made a new friend and we
reminisced about the crab races we used to have in the
Tuamotos! |

We enjoyed a pleasant evening
with drinks, watching the sun set in the good company of
Annie and Liam.
Salt Island
The following morning, we took
the boats over to Salt Island, where salt used to be traded
instead of money, and anchored among the dive boats. Gord
and Liam dove on the wreck of the RS Rhone. The 310
ft. pride of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company,
capable of carrying 313 passengers, broke in two and sank
into 80 feet of water during a hurricane in 1867. |
