The BATHS - VIRGIN
GORDA, BVIs, CARIBBEAN |
|
February 21, 2011
Our primary destination was a
visit to the Baths, huge boulders that seem to have been
arranged by a playful giant to provide a myriad of rock
pools, secret beaches and trails. We had vivid recollections
of our last visit to the Baths and we weren't disappointed
the second time around. |

We
arrived at the Baths late in the day, just as the
crowds were leaving. After a walk through the cactus
and rock forest that spilled into a powdery sand
beach with change rooms and smooth indented
lawn-chair-like boulders beckoning a relaxing laze
on the beach. The entrance to the Baths lay at
Devil's Bay, where gigantic slabs of rock, sanded
smooth by the water and bleached by the sun, formed
the cave opening. |

A labyrinth of pools and
grottoes lie amidst the huge granite boulders piled atop one
another.with the water temperature at about 83 degrees. It was fun to relive the
adventure of crawling through the rock tunnels and over the
giant boulders to discover powdery white sand beaches. |
Wooden walkways, stairs
and ropes helps traverse the mammoth granite rock, sprinkled
with quartz. |
Spring Bay
After drinks at the restaurant
on the hill overlooking the rugged landscape, we headed off
to explore the neighboring Spring Bay, another short hike to
an amazing white sand beach. |
|
|
We were mesmerized by the
waves pounding on the boulders, ever increasing in magnitude
as the sun faded and dusk fell.

Round 2
April 11, 2001
A few months later, we
returned to the Baths and Spring Bay with Annie and Liam. We
rented a car with Windys and repeated the
stunning drive around the island. |
